Melissa is a past winner of the Independent Short Film and Music Association Festivals Outstanding Musician Award and the winner of the first season of So You Think You Can Sing. With a soulful, booming voice and a sweet simplicity in her songwriting, Melissa's heartfelt lyrics explore hopeful observations about the world and a piercing examination of her own life experiences.
Growing up, Melissa was heavily influenced by her Kentucky roots in country and gospel music, including Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell and Dolly Parton. Melissa worked for years on developing her own unique sound and style, incorporating the vocal strengths of many of her musical icons: Whitney Houston, Ann Wilson, Pat Benetar, Aretha Franklin and Faith Hill.
Melissa fronted several bands in her early years on the scene: all original girl group, Doris Daze and cover band, Shig Shag and her current band, a super group of players that have toured with everyone from Heart to Allison Iraheta.
The first three tracks of Melissa's upcoming album, "Nothing Like Me", was produced by industry veteran, Denny Fongheiser. Denny Fongheiser has toured and worked with such artists as: Heart, Counting Crows, Tracy Chapman, Ronan Keating, and more.
Collins' critically acclaimed three song EP has quickly become recognizable and crowd favorites at her live performances. Her music has been played on radio stations across the US and Internationally. She continues to write original music and performs live all over the country.
